A New York minerale offers rare chance to see steatites from outer space, says NASA

NEW YORK — Steatite ore from a New York mine could one day be sold for the first time in space, thanks to a collaboration between NASA and a mining company.

The first of two cargo flights to the International Space Station in 2018, dubbed SpaceShipTwo, has already sent two astronauts into space.

Its next flight, slated for 2020, will take astronauts to a commercial asteroid mining facility, a key step for space exploration.NASA and its contractors are working on the SpaceShipOne mission, which is expected to fly to the asteroid by 2025.
